Unwelcome - Stamping out anti-social behaviour in Thurrock

What You Can Expect as a Perpetrator from the ASB Team and Housing Services

As a perpetrator of Anti-Social Behaviour you are affecting the quality of life for others in the community.

As a perpetrator of Anti-Social Behaviour you are affecting the quality of life for others in the community. Such behaviour will not be tolerated in Thurrock and whilst you will be treated fairly and in accordance with the law, we will take swift and positive action against you in accordance with our zero tolerance stance.

That said, if you need help to stop offending we will always listen to you and try to help, even if that just means pointing you in the right direction of more appropriate agencies.

Action we can take includes:

Warnings

We will always be reasonable and try and resolve issues with warnings if we think it appropriate.

However we do not have to and may move straight onto other options depending on the seriousness of a case.

Acceptable Behaviour Contracts (ABC's)

We may ask you to sign a contract outlining why your current behaviour is unacceptable and setting standards of future acceptable behaviour.

Anti Social Behaviour Orders (ASBO's)

We may apply to the Magistrates Court for an ASBO against you.

These orders can be made you if you are aged 10 years or over. They last a minimum of 2 years and can last for life.

The order tells you what you cannot do and breaching it is a criminal offence and can result in you getting a fine and/or a prison sentence of up to 5 years.

Crack House Closures

A crack house is a property used for the purpose of making and/or smoking Class A Drugs.

The ASB Act allows us to apply to the Magistrates Court for a Closure Order meaning that the property is sealed up and you or anyone else is excluded from it.

These orders can be obtained very quickly and without notice to you (we don't have to tell you).

Injunctions

These are orders obtained in the County Court for anyone aged over 18 years.

They tell you what you cannot do.

They can be used to exclude you from your home or even the borough!

Parenting Orders

These orders require parents or carers to comply with set down conditions, part of which may be attending counselling and/or parenting classes.

Possession Proceedings

If you are a council tenant we may ask the court to evict you from your home.

If you own your home we can apply for an injunction to exclude you from your home.

If you are in privately rented accommodation we can make your landlord take action against you.

Prison

Always an option if all else fails!
